Loving this track at the moment. I’m probably one of the least gangsta people in London but this track makes me feel like a proper badass. Love the reggae feel and dubstep influences along with his tone. Wicked tune!
Seriously… one of the best tunes I’ve heard for a while.
How many hooks exactly? Winner.
And the singer produced the whole video. Dude.
Rae Morris - Don’t Go
Most definitely the best performance I saw at Bushstock (followed by Lanterns on the Lake). Just sensational. A little like Tori Amos, Bjork, Regina Specktor except just comparing her doesn’t do her justice - she’s got her own style for sure. Such a strong yet emotional voice and beautiful piano, superb songs. Turn on and hit repeat.
I might be about to lose any integrity with blogging music I had by posting this pop princess, hairbrush bedroom diva choice. Okay, some might say it’s a little bit of a faceless pop track BUT in my opinion it’s super well written, sang and produced. Reminds me of 12 year old me bopping to Avril Lavigne and Amy Studt in my bedroom. Yep. I’m confessing, I love this (and the whole EP :p)!
I haven’t posted an album on here yet. So here goes! Alt-J - An Awesome Wave. I am in love with this today, practically had it on repeat. Beautiful combination of melodies, sounds and influences. What a fantastic record. I’m not sure I even have one favourite track, the whole thing is so good.
Abi Wade - Stability
I saw Abi perform last night, supporting Josh Kumra at The Social. She was incredible. Don’t just listen to the audio, take a look at the video too. I’ve never seen someone play the cello like that before. It wasn’t just her alternative techniques that were captivating though, she’s a fantastic songwriter and her voice is gorgeous too. I’d love to hear some of her songs remixed with some stronger electronic production behind them.

Ellie Goulding - High For This (The Weeknd Cover)
This. Is. Amazing! So happy to have a new Ellie track and stylistically this is a lot less pop than her debut album, Lights. Such a cool vibe here. Love it.

Have been loving this track this week. Sweet, melodic, poppy and electronic. Summery winner.
Been quiet my end on Tumblr for the last few days as I’m starting a new job at RCA Records on Monday so it’s been a particularly busy couple of weeks. Zulu Winter released Language this week. It’s a fantastic record. This is my favourite track off it.
Owl City - Shooting Star
Adam Young has done it again :) Another pretty pop hit. I love this for what it is, and he is extremely good at it. The track was released today. Only critisism is the video for this kind of copies the Johnny Neon - Hearts video with the whole dog cam thing for a music vid. Check it here: http://vimeo.com/37123607
My Great Escape
I was only there for 24 hours but here are my thoughts:
- I saw my friends Fighting Fiction play at 8pm at Volks at the Xtra Mile night. Amazing. So much energy with a great combination of thrashing punk/rock guitars but with the odd delightful pop melody. They dedicated a song to me which made me extra :D
Listen to their latest album on Spotify here: Fighting Fiction – Fighting Fiction
- I wish I’d seen St. Lucia - their new song Closer Than This makes me feel sonically overjoyed. But apparently they didn’t play it anyway *sigh of relief* nevertheless really liking their stuff at the moment.

- Finally, in a slightly tired state I fell in love with Bernhoft. I’ve seen loop stuff done many times before but with him it’s the combination of his amazing soulful voice, mixed with insanely catch pop hooks, technical whizzing but an infectious personality when performing. He had the whole crowd going even though everyone was sat down. Uh mazing. I like this picture I took because if you look closely you can see me taking the reflection off the bullet stage of me taking the picture. It was a beautiful sunny day.
Watch him covering Shout on YouTube here: Bernhoft - Shout (live)
In terms of what was in my headphones. To match the weather, I enjoyed some summery tracks on my Spotify. Top five were:
Animal Collective – My Girls
Avicii – Silhouettes - Original Radio Edit
Beach House – Myth
B.o.B – So Good
Icona Pop – Nights Like This
I love this. But it’s grown on me. I playlisted it immediately after hearing it for the first time, but then didn’t come back to it. Her voice is so sweet and gentle yet creepy - I love that melody. The production is very eerie and atmospheric electronic too.
Archeo - Glass Half Empty
I first heard this track when it was featured as Record of the Day and thought it was a pretty great pop song - love the play on lyric too. It’s been released on iTunes this week which was what prompted me to put it on again (I follow his activity on Facebook). Just plugging this now because it is excellent.
Sooo delighted this track charted. Sub Focus’ management sits above us in the office and I’ve heard this track pumping through the ceiling on several occasions. It’s a banger and I couldn’t wait for it to be released. Alice’s vocals sound killer on it too. An original sound and not cliche in the slightest! That hook is so good too.
Studio Killers - Eros and Apollo
Oh my. This has to be the best song I’ve found today, released a week and a half ago. Lyrics are awesome, production is awesome, whole track ambience is awesome. Poppy, dancey, upbeat, electro goodness! Have practically had this on repeat for the last hour..!
